Indiana Pacers Receive: F Marcus Morris Sr., G Luke Kennard, 2027 First-Round Pick
LA Clippers Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon
A look at the LA Clippers’ cap sheet could raise some eyebrows. They’ve got several players on contracts they haven’t necessarily earned. This deal shows how slight overpays can be deceptively advantageous.
Marcus Morris Sr. is probably not a $16.3 million dollar man. Luke Kennard may be earning his annual $14.4 million dollar salary this season, but it sure looked like an overpay when he agreed to it. Realistically, it’s still on the cusp of one.
That’s fine. Without those lucrative deals, the LA Clippers wouldn’t have the contracts to match Brogdon’s without parting with a key piece. With this deal, the primary cost for Brogdon’s services is a 2027 First-Round Pick.
The Clippers shouldn’t flinch. Teams as deep into title contention as they are can’t afford to be cheap with draft capital. Brogdon gives them the missing piece they’ve been searching for since acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Paul George: a bonafide floor general.

The Indiana Pacers are happy to add a 25-year-old sharpshooter in Kennard, but they’re thrilled to add a distant first-round pick. Meanwhile, the LA Clippers become a force to be reckoned with by adding Brogdon.
