Detroit Pistons Receive: G Davion Mitchell, C Richaun Holmes, 2023 First-Round Pick (SAC)
Sacramento Kings Receive: F Jerami Grant
Since the Kings are in the business of trading promising young point guards for win-now veterans, why stop at Tyrese Haliburton?
Rookie Davion Mitchell has looked the part of the 9th overall pick in 2021-22. A waterbug with a lightning-quick first step, Mitchell was heralded for his defensive prowess heading into the draft. At 11.2 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 turnovers per game, his offense looks ahead of schedule.
The Pistons may not be enthralled with Mitchell. After all, they have their point guard of the future in Cunningham. Still, having a quality backup point guard is not without value.
Mitchell could even grow into a sixth-man role. With Cunningham’s size, he can slot into the 2 or 3 spot with ease, allowing the Pistons plenty of rotational minutes for the two to share the floor.

Richaun Holmes is here to make contracts match. Unfortunately, he’s recently been accused of assaulting an ex-girlfriend. That’s a delicate issue that extends beyond the reach of this article: we’ll only note that the Pistons could waive and stretch the big man if they chose to.
Davion Mitchell and a soon-to-convey first-round pick feel like a solid return for Jerami Grant. On the other hand, if the Pistons aren’t enamored with Mitchell, they could ask for something different.
