The Sacramento Kings set an NBA record this year, but not one that any franchise wants to have ownership of. They were officially eliminated from postseason contention, making it 16 consecutive years they have gone between postseason appearances. This broke a tie with the Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers/Los Angeles Clippers who missed 15 straight years from the 1976-77 season through the 1990-91 campaign.
Now, the Kings are the sole owners of that record. With the NBA Play-In Tournament now looking like a fixture, it is hard to imagine a team in the league coming close to that record as more teams will have the opportunity to sneak into the playoffs.
Sacramento was hopeful that the midseason trade they executed, getting Domantas Sabonis from the Indiana Pacers, would jump-start a push for the playoffs, but it has been much the same after the deal as it was before.
The Kings are 9-14 since acquiring Sabonis, so there is still some work that needs to be done to fix this roster so that they can compete for a playoff spot next season. There are some pieces to work with, as challenging for the postseason as early as next season is attainable.

Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox are a good duo to start with. Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell, Donte DiVincenzo, and Richaun Holmes are a solid supporting cast as well. But, they could certainly use an upgrade to make a playoff push.
Who could they target this offseason? Here is one player the Sacramento Kings should already be targeting this offseason to upgrade the roster.
