Why Jerami Grant Is The Right Target
If there is one area of the roster that the Sacramento Kings need to aggressively pursue an upgrade this offseason, it is on the wing. Sacramento would benefit greatly by either moving Harrison Barnes down to the small forward spot or finding someone capable of filling that position.
In Jerami Grant, the Kings are getting a player that can fill either forward spot given his versatility. Grant has been vocal about his desire to be on a team where he would remain the top scoring option and with the Kings, he would be a top-three option every night. Given the playmaking abilities of Fox and Sabonis, Grant would likely lead the team in shot attempts more often than not.
Adding another scoring option to the mix like that is never a bad thing. But, what the Kings would appreciate the most that Grant brings to the table is his defense. He is an excellent defender, as he is capable of being an above-average defender against three positions.
In some scenarios, he can keep up with point guards and he does have some experience playing small-ball center. For a team that faces limitations with Domantas Sabonis on defense, that type of versatility could be important in some situations.

Acquiring Jerami Grant wouldn’t make the Kings title contenders overnight, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction compared to where they have been the last 16 seasons.
Fox, Davion Mitchell, and DiVincenzo handling the backcourt with Grant and Barnes at the forward spots, and Sabonis and Damian Jones handling the frontcourt is a good core to build around.

Adding some veterans and whatever draft picks are retained this season to provide depth and the Kings could have a roster to challenge for a playoff spot and end their drought.
