The Player The Sacramento Kings Should Already Be Targeting
Sacramento has all of their first-round picks going forward, so they can be aggressive on the trade market if a difference-maker comes available. Harrison Barnes’ expiring contract could be a good asset to shop and Richaun Holmes, who was removed from the starting lineup after the acquisition of Sabonis.
The player that they should be targeting this offseason is Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons. Grant could be made available this offseason as he seeks a new contract extension. Given where the Pistons are in their rebuild, they may not be willing to sign him to a lucrative extension as it is unlikely they will be ready to compete during the duration of it.
The Sacramento Kings could build a few different packages to try and pry Grant from Detroit. Barnes can be swapped for him straight up to work with salary cap rules. Detroit has been on the lookout for a center, so Richaun Holmes could be used as the centerpiece of a deal.
If Holmes is traded, the Kings would have to include some more players to help match salary. A combination of Justin Holiday, Alex Len, Maurice Harkless, Terance Davis, and Chimezie Metu can be used to match salaries.
