Making the Case: New York Knicks
If the opportunity to acquire a talent like Donovan Mitchell was available to the New York Knicks, it would be tough for them to not capitalize on that chance.
In recent years, the Knicks have sought to land star talents in free agency but were unable to get it done. Completing a trade for Mitchell, who is set to turn 26-years-old in Sept., would bring a No. 1 option and ideally attract another star in the near future.
By not having to move RJ Barrett in the trade, the Knicks could deploy him at the three spot on the wing next to Mitchell, or go with a jumbo backcourt with Mitchell at the one. Either way, there are intriguing options in such a situation.
There would need to be further changes to the Knicks’ roster to better balance things around Mitchell and Barrett. By moving Julius Randle, there’d be more opportunity for Obi Toppin, but on the wings, there’d be overlap.
