In the offseason, the Houston Rockets will be showing a level of interest in trading veterans such as John Wall and Eric Gordon if they can get enough value back in a trade that makes sense for them.
It is not hard to believe that this same mindset will be placed on Christian Wood since he will be entering the final year of his contract and the team could look to have Alperen Sengun take over the starting center position.
Wood has been great in a Rockets uniform the last two seasons, but his upside for this young team is somewhat limited and the resources they could get back in a trade right now could set them up for more long-term future success.
De’Anthony Melton (23) and Brandon Clarke (25) and both young talents for the Rockets to add on to their core group of youth and while they do not have a need for a player like Steven Adams, he could be a short-term replacement in their frontcourt for Wood that acts as a perfect mentor for someone like Sengun.

Adding another first-round pick to their draft capital is also very favorable to the Houston Rockets, even if it is not until 2024 at the earliest.
As for the Grizzlies, it is hard to believe that they would look to rip apart their core or bench group, but the additions of Christian Wood and Eric Gordon could be the missing links for this team’s chance to go to the NBA Finals if they do not do so this season.
Gordon has proven that he can still be a two-way factor on the wing, as he is averaging 41.2% from three-point range this season, and Wood can be a more versatile scorer than that of Adams currently in the Grizzlies’ frontcourt.

This trade would result in Memphis giving up a lot of their current assets, along with a future asset in a draft pick, but the value Wood and Gordon bring could be too much to pass up on.
Houston will be willing to discuss trade opportunities involving both players in the offseason, which is why Memphis may be able to get a deal done on their terms.
