Does this trade make sense for the Knicks?
Trading for Russell Westbrook would not be a good move for the New. York Knicks to make, but it would not be a bad move either depending on what the thought process of their front-office is.
Should Leon Rose and Scott Perry prioritize looking ahead at possible stars they can add to their roster, pursuing Russell Westbrook right now is not a bad idea whatsoever because he will instantly free up nearly $50 million in cap space for New York to play around with following the 2022-23 season.
Moving Derrick Rose, Evan Fournier and Alec Burks now allows the Knicks to get out of long-term deals while taking a chance on a superstar talent in Russell Westbrook that could find a permanent home in New York.
On the other side of things though, trading their depth could be crippling to a struggling Knicks franchise and nobody ever wants to have a $47 million contract on their payroll, even if it is for just one season!

It is really hard to pinpoint where the Knicks get value that make them better for the 2022-23 season in this trade, which is why it likely does not make much sense for them.
However, the Knicks are always full of surprises and Leon Rose is willing to do what it takes to make this team a contender, so who knows at this point!
