Why Myles Turner Is The Right Target For The Los Angeles Lakers

Despite having a strategic advantage when Anthony Davis plays the center spot, it is not something he likes doing full-time. Davis prefers playing power forward, so bringing on a center capable of soaking up starter minutes is a necessity this season.

Los Angeles trotted out DeAndre Jordan at the beginning of the season and has used Dwight Howard at times as well. Frank Vogel has even used lineups with LeBron James at the center spot with Davis sidelined.

Having a player as good as Myles Turner entrenched in the middle would be good for Los Angeles. One of the biggest issues with the current Big 3 is spacing. That is why Marc Gasol was such an important player, but Gasol remained overseas.

Turner can bring the 3-point shooting the Los Angeles Lakers were expected to have from Gasol. Having a center that can space the floor would open things up offensively as teams have to respect Turner on the perimeter.

Defensively, this is where the former Longhorn makes his biggest impact. Myles Turner is arguably the best rim protector in the NBA. We have seen how beneficial it is to have multiple big men that can protect the rim, as the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a dominant defensive unit with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.

A trade package of Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn, and a first-round pick could be a good starting point for negotiations. Los Angeles doesn’t have many more assets beyond that, so if they cannot get the Indiana Pacers to bite at that, they will need to get a third team involved.
