What Should The Portland Trail Blazers Do?

Striking a trade with the Detroit Pistons for Jerami Grant would definitely be a good move for the Portland Trail Blazers to make given that he has proven to be a key primary scoring weapon, but Grant’s status moving forward is a question mark that would need to be answered.

Entering the final year of his contract, Portland would be an assurance that Jerami Grant would sign a new long-term deal with them if offered, and even doing so, would the Trail Blazers want to potentially tie themselves down to a similar mistake they made with Norman Powell, who received a five-year, $90 million extension from Portland this past offseason before being traded?

Talent-wise, Jerami Grant makes sense on Portland’s roster, but they really do not need him given that Josh Hart has emerged as a key secondary option next to Damian Lillard and the last thing the Blazers want to do is tie themselves down financially, especially since Anfernee Simons will be receiving a massive contract extension in the offseason.

Should Portland pursue Jerami Grant, they would almost definitely have to get Jusuf Nurkic involved in a potential sign-and-trade, that way they can keep Josh Hart in the process.

However, it is also possible that a deal centered around Eric Bledsoe, who is going to be on a partially-guaranteed deal, Nassir Little, and some draft picks could get a deal done for Jerami Grant, allowing Portland to re-sign both Simons and Nurkic, as well as keep Josh Hart.

There are a ton of scenarios here in which the Portland Trail Blazers could pursue Jerami Grant, but if Detroit is asking too much, then the Blazers would be better off just keeping what they have and pursuing other talents to put next to Lillard and Simons.
