Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Alec Burks, C Nerlens Noel, NYK 2022 2nd Round Pick
New York Knicks Receive: C Clint Capela

The Knicks obviously need another star player to build around moving forward, but they may not be able to get said talent in the offseason with the limited amount of starpower available in free agency.

With them possibly targeting 2023 free agency and all the big names that will become available then, the Knicks would be smart to figure things out in their frontcourt, especially with Mitchell Robinson becoming a free agent in the offseason.

Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson have been a solid three-man rotation at the center position, but the upside with this group is limited and adding Clint Capela to this Knicks team could really help them tighten things up on both ends of the court.

In his eighth NBA season, Capela is averaging 10.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and is shooting 60.2% from the floor, making him a solid option to pair with Julius Randle in the Knicks frontcourt.

For the Atlanta Hawks, replacing Capela’s production may seem tough to do, but they already have both Onyeka Okongwu and John Collins in their frontcourt, plus they would be receiving an avid rebounder and rim-protector in Nerlens Noel.

The Hawks recently gave Clint Capela a two-year, roughly $42 million extension, but Capela’s value to this team has really declined with the addition of Okongwu last season given that Clint Capela is only utilized as a pick-and-roll big man.

Capela is replaceable to the Hawks right now and their biggest issue entering the offseason will be the limited financial resources that they have.

Projected to be well over the salary cap entering the offseason, Atlanta is going to have their work cut out for themselves in terms of adding more talent because they have no cap space.

Moving large contracts like that of Clint Capela’s not only to open up cap space, but to bring in some other key secondary talents in Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks could be very compelling to this franchise.
