Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
Moving Clint Capela is not something that comes to mind at first when looking at potential moves the Atlanta Hawks can make in the offseason, but the more and more you actually think about this move, the more it actually makes sense.
Clint Capela is a really strong rebounder and finisher around the rim, but his contributions to winning games for the Hawks is slim because he is so limited on the offensive-end of the floor other than in pick-and-roll sets.
Onyeka Okongwu is a very similar player at the center position and being much younger, the Hawks should turn to the young big man to lead their frontcourt moving forward.
The thing with Atlanta right now is that they have no cap space to operate with, which could ultimately be their downfall and make their appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals last season a fluke.

Creating open space on their roster to have the potential to add another star is essential moving forward for the Hawks and right now, Capela, Gallinari and Bogdanovic are set to take up $58.1 million in cap space next season.
By sending Capela to the New York Knicks, the Atlanta Hawks can open up some cap space to operate with, they would have options with Nerlens Noel and they could utilize Alec Burks as a key secondary scorer on the wing.
