Lakers Continue To Falter

The Los Angeles Lakers are 29-39 this season and are just four losses away from having a losing season, which would be just the third time in LeBron James’ career that his team had a losing record. 

Trading for Russell Westbrook is looking like one of the worst trades ever made in NBA history not just because Westbrook does not fit in whatsoever with the pieces the Lakers have on their roster, but because Los Angeles gave up all of their financial flexibility and key secondary assets for him. 

Now, because the Lakers traded for Westbrook ahead of the 2021-22 season, they will have no available money until after the 2022-23 season, they have virtually no draft capital and the Lakers are stuck with no bench. 

Anthony Davis is constantly injured, leaving a 37-year-old LeBron James to have to score 50 points, only for the Lakers to continue to lose games at a high rate.

This season has been one step forward and two major steps backward for the Lakers, which is why their season is almost over. 

While it is not wise to ever count out a LeBron James led team, as he has proven multiple times throughout his career that he can carry a struggling team deep in the playoffs, James is not going to be able to do so this NBA season with the Lakers. 

Even with Anthony Davis on the floor this season, the Lakers are just 17-20 this season, proving that their problems run a lot deeper than just having one of their superstars out of the rotation.

Major changes are coming to this Lakers’ organization in the offseason and while they could claim the 8-seed via the play-in tournament, they will have no shot at winning more than a game against the red-hot Phoenix Suns in the first round. 

Coaching changes, front-office changes and major roster changes are on the horizon for the Lakers once their season ends in a few weeks.
