Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
Finding a reliable center that can aid them in rebounding and scoring in the paint is essential for the Dallas Mavericks this upcoming offseason, which is why getting Richaun Holmes for Dwight Powell and a future second-round pick makes complete sense.
Holmes can be effective without always seeing the ball in his hands offensively and defensively, the Sacramento Kings big man averaged a career-high 1.6 blocks per game last season.
His underutilization this season should not deter the Mavericks by any means, as Richaun Holmes is exactly the kind of big body they need to put in the paint.
Essentially, they would not get worse on the floor by making this trade, as Richaun Holmes is definitely an upgrade talent-wise from Dwight Powell given his ability to finish around the rim.

The only problem with this trade could transpire on the money-side of things, as the Mavericks could be very tight on available funds given that they also would like to re-sign Jalen Brunson in free agency.
Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr., Spencer Dinwiddie, Davis Bertans, Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock are set to make a combined $113.2 million next season and if you add Dwight Powell’s contract to this, the Mavericks have a payroll of $124.2 million between 7 players on their roster.
Add Jalen Brunson on a big contract to the mix and now the Dallas Mavericks could have a very tough time swapping one large contract in Powell for another in Holmes, which is why this trade may not be able to occur.
