Jalen Brunson is not an All-Star talent and while he recently became a starting-caliber guard in this league, he is expected to become one of the highest-paid players from this upcoming free-agent class. 

The Pistons reportedly called the Mavericks close to the trade deadline inquiring about a potential Jalen Brunson trade and many around the league to believe that the Pistons will make a move to sign Brunson from under Dallas in the offseason. 

Between being able to score off-the-dribble, as well as play off-the-ball, Jalen Brunson is the perfect blend of a facilitator and scorer in the backcourt that Detroit is lacking right now.

Killian Hayes and Cory Joseph have not been bad by any means, but neither player possesses the means to really lift this team heading into next season. 

Jalen Brunson may not have the same level of impact as a player like Cade Cunningham either, but he is as consistent as they come in the backcourt and he plays his role to perfection. 

Having a career year in Dallas, many expect the Mavericks to match any offer that the young guard may receive in free agency this offseason. However, with him being an unrestricted free agent, there is always a chance that Jalen Brunson could elect to sign elsewhere, giving the Pistons a fair shot at landing him.
