Expectations were low for the Detroit Pistons entering the 2021-22 NBA season and while they have been officially eliminated from postseason contention, this young Pistons team has shown some tremendous growth over the course of the season.

Early on, their offense really struggled and this team had no identity. As of late though, Detroit has been a tough team to play and they have really found their groove offensively with rookie Cade Cunningham being their primary ball-handler and facilitator.

Averaging less than 100 points per game through their first 19 games of the regular season, the Pistons have averaged about 109.7 points per game over their last 11 games and they are 6-5 in this span.

As mentioned before, rookie Cade Cunningham has been playing some great basketball and since the All-Star break, Cunningham has averaged 22.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and has shot 44.4% from the floor.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Mavericks, Pistons Linked As Suitors For Mitchell Robinson

The future is very bright for this young Detroit Pistons team, but the offseason will prove to be a potential big stepping stone for them.

Detroit is still a few years away from being anything special in the Eastern Conference, but if they can make some key acquisitions in the offseason, they can move into the next step of their rebuild process and potentially contend for a play-in tournament spot.

Evaluating the future of Jerami Grant on this roster is key, as is adding another ball-handler in the backcourt next to Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons may be content with keeping veteran Cory Joseph and further developing former first-round pick Killian Hayes, but there are several key backcourt options that the Pistons could consider signing once free agency begins.

Already having Saddiq Bey on the wing and assuming they will still have Jerami Grant, all the Pistons need now is another reliable backcourt facilitator and scorer, which is why one of these three players could be potential options for them as secondary ball-handlers.
