Victor Oladipo Opens Up More Space In Driving Lanes Offensively

One of the most fascinating things about Victor Oladipo’s debut on Monday night was the fact that head coach Erik Spoelstra utilized him in rotations with Tyler Herro and Kyle Lowry, two other primary ball-handling guards.

Almost being utilized as a wing-spacer at times, Oladipo seemed to open up a lot of space on the floor since the Rockets had to respect him as a shooter on the perimeter. Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry and even Jimmy Butler at times were able to attack the basket, which led to a wide-open three-point look for Oladipo at the top of the arc.

This kind of movement by the Miami Heat of using Victor Oladipo as a wing and ball-screener in some actions for Herro and Lowry is very advantageous for them because of the fact that the Heat are a very successful three-point shooting team.

By drawing attention away from defenders in the lane, Victor Oladipo allows the Heat to attack the basket a little more and should defenses collapse, guys like Lowry and Herro will have no problem finding their teammates in the corner, especially since the Heat shoot a league-best 37.7% from deep as a team.

The opposite can be said about Victor Oladipo as well in terms of creating open driving lanes because he can now attack these open lanes.

With the attention Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, and others draw, Oladipo will have one-on-one opportunities he can exploit. Offensively, the return of Victor Oladipo opens up plenty of new options for an already talented offensive team.
