Would this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?
The clear focus for the Indiana Pacers is to build around the 22-year-old Tyrese Haliburton, who was acquired in the NBA trade deadline move that featured parting with Domantas Sabonis.
While there is certainly room to debate whether Malcolm Brogdon is a strong fit alongside Haliburton, it’s important to take into consideration that he will be 30-years-old during the 2022-23 season. Moving on from him after a strong stretch run could be an ideal outcome.
Brogdon has struggled to stay healthy throughout his NBA career and those concerns have only worsened. He faces limitations both as a shot creator out on the perimeter and isn’t elite at any particular area all while his perimeter shooting efficiency has seemingly regressed.
Even with those limitations, having a secondary ball-handler that can get downhill goes a long way and the Pacers would need to find a long-term solution in that regard. However, that would be the case before making this trade, too.

Working to develop a talent like Chris Duarte on the wing should be a priority. He was selected in the NBA Draft Lottery recently after a disappointing season and is coming off the bench behind Brogdon and Buddy Hield.
