Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
It’s been an up-and-down season for the New York Knicks with the point guard position being one that has continued to be an issue despite acquiring Kemba Walker in the offseason.
Walker hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations that New York held when they signed him. Taking a chance on a player like Russell Westbrook could bring a different dynamic into the fold and perhaps that could be a combination that promotes greater results.
Westbrook is known for starting off slowly but having strong finishes to his regular-season campaigns. Perhaps he could find his stride next season after a fresh start? Even if that didn’t end up being the case, New York wouldn’t be stuck and would clear a massive amount of salary-cap space.
While there has been much criticism for Westbrook during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, and rightfully so, it’s important to not take away too much from what he can bring to a team. His lack of efficiency in the scoring department can be frustrating as can his lapses on defense. He can still get to the rim at a high level.

The commitment wouldn’t be a long-term one for the Knicks with Westbrook given he is signed through just the 2022-23 season. Perhaps he could be a helpful star to have in order to recruit another difference-maker in the offseason, too. Receiving Austin Reaves and a future first-round pick is an intriguing option, too.
