MVP Race Is Wide-Open

The Sixth-Man of the Year award, Most Improved Player award and the Rookie of the Year award seem to be locked-up at this point by Tyler Herro (Heat), Ja Morant (Grizzlies) and Evan Mobley (Cavaliers), respectively, but the league’s MVP race is still very much open.

You could make compelling arguments for Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, DeMar DeRozan, Chris Paul, Steph Curry and others this season in regards to the MVP award and this race could very well come down to the wire!

Joel Embiid seems like the clear-cut front-runner as of right now given his success leading the Philadelphia 76ers and this award appears to be his to lose, but Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic are both having career-years.

Antetokounmpo currently leads the league in scoring and has the Bucks just two games out of first-place in the Eastern Conference. Jokic has led the Nuggets all season long, averaging a career-high 13.8 rebounds and leading the league in triple-doubles (15).

While they are to be considered “dark-horses” right now, DeMar DeRozan and Chris Paul are still very much in the conversation for this award given that the Bulls and Suns are in first-place in their respective conferences.

Head-to-head matchups between MVP candidates and their team’s overall record could very well determine who takes home the MVP honors this season.
