Chicago Bulls Are Real Title Threats

Entering the season, the Chicago Bulls had won a combined 53 games the last two seasons and had not made the playoffs since 2017. Now, with 23 games left on their schedule this season, the Bulls are 38-21, in first-place in the Eastern Conference, and are well on their way to making the playoffs.

Not only is this team getting to the playoffs, but they should be considered a real title contending threat across the league because of how well Demar DeRozan has been playing.

Single-handedly carrying the Bulls, DeRozan has been looking like a dark-horse MVP candidate this season and has been on a tear the last week or so.

Not only has DeMar DeRozan been the leader of the Chicago Bulls this season with All-Stars in Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic next to him, but he is averaging a career-high 28.1 points per game (3rd in the NBA), he leads the Bulls in assists per game (5.1) and he has scored the most points out of any player in the league this season with 1,547 total points.

Since February 1, DeRozan ranks second in the league in points per game (35.8) and has helped the Bulls win five straight games. DeRozan also recently recorded 38 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 12, marking his fifth straight game with at least 35 points, joining Bulls’ legend Michael Jordan as the only other player in franchise history to achieve such a feat.

In addition to tying the great Michael Jordan, DeMar DeRozan also made NBA history by surpassing the great Wilt Chamberlain!

DeMar DeRozan scored 38 points on 16-27 shooting on Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings, not only marking his 7th straight game with at least 35 points, but his 7th straight game with at least 35 points and shooting at least 50% from the floor surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA-record of 6 straight games which he did twice in his career.

The fact that DeRozan has been playing at an MVP-level has the Bulls in a position to possibly win the Eastern Conference this season, but they also have a ton of other talent on their roster.

Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic are both high-level offensive talents and while they are injured right now, Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams should all be back in time for the Bulls as they get ready for the playoffs.

Chicago has won 10 of their last 14 games without being at full-strength, which is why they are the real deal. It should not come as a surprise to anyone to see the Bulls claim the 1-seed this season and make a deep playoff push.
