3. Mike Muscala

The Los Angeles Lakers had big plans for Marc Gasol coming into the season. His ability to spread the floor and shoot 3-pointers was going to be needed after they added Russell Westbrook, who isn’t a real threat to hurt teams with his shooting ability, was acquired in a trade.

Unfortunately for them, Gasol didn’t play in the NBA this season. He retired from the league and played overseas. He was replaced by DeAndre Jordan, which has been a mitigated disaster.

Still, in need of a floor-spacing big, the Lakers are likely holding out hope someone such as Mike Muscala is bought out by the Oklahoma City Thunder. On an expiring deal and with no real use for a veteran such as Muscala, it would make sense if the Thunder eventually work out a buyout for him.

His 3-point shooting ability would fit in nicely in the Lakers’ frontcourt. They need some more floor spacing in the lineup, especially with Anthony Davis now sidelined again by a sprained ankle.

Still only 30-years old, Muscala likely isn’t in ring chasing mode yet. He could prioritize the opportunity to play over a ring to maximize his value heading into free agency again. The Lakers could certainly provide him with consistent minutes to showcase his talent.
