Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Lakers, NBA News

The Los Angeles Lakers cannot catch a break this season. Things aren’t going well on the court and they could be ugly once again for the next few games following the NBA All-Star break as Anthony Davis suffered another injury.

Davis had already missed 17 games this season because of a sprained MCL that he suffered on December 17th against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Now, he is going to miss even more time as he suffered a gruesome ankle sprain against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

To come away with only a sprain is lucky, as Davis’ ankle was nearly touching the ground at the time the injury occurred.

X-rays came back negative on his injured right ankle, which is a relief. He will receive treatment throughout the All-Star break according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium and will be re-evaluated once the team returns from break.

LATEST NBA INJURY NEWS & RUMORS: What Is Lakers’ Outlook To Move Westbrook In Offseason?

For a Los Angeles Lakers team struggling to find consistency this season, another injury to Anthony Davis is the last thing they needed. He was having an excellent game against the Jazz, as he had 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 17 minutes of play. LeBron James was asked about the injury during his press conference following the game.

“Obviously it’s sickening to see AD go down in that fashion,” James said. “I hope he’s fine. Obviously, I mean, I know he’s not like, great, but obviously his health is most important for him individually, for our ballclub. I’ve seen [teammates get injured] too many times, obviously. So I just wish him the best.”

LeBron James had a big game himself, scoring 33 points to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. He helped spearhead an impressive comeback, as Los Angeles overcame a 12-point deficit with 6:35 remaining in the game.

The Lakers outscored the Jazz 26-9 the remainder of the game to finish off the come from behind win. It was something head coach Frank Vogel was impressed by. After seeing a teammate go down in the fashion that Davis did, some teams would not be able to recover. But the Lakers did and got an important victory.

“It’s very deflating to see AD go down the way he did, and our guys tried to rally the necessary energy to start the second half,” Vogel said. “But there’s an energy that you have to overcome.”

That victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Los Angeles Lakers, who won’t play again until February 25th against the LA Clippers. If Anthony Davis is only sidelined about two weeks as being reported, he could miss as few as three games. But, he will likely require a ramp-up period after he is cleared to return, so he will more likely miss five-to-seven games before we see him back on the court.
