The Knicks Are… Well… I Guess Waiting Until The Offseason?

Has anyone checked on the Knicks’ front-office to make sure they are all still okay?

The trade deadline was supposed to be a big moment for the Knicks to finally add another high-level talent to their roster, but they failed to pass a simple test yet again and the only move this franchise made this season in trade talks was acquiring Cam Reddish from the Hawks for Kevin Knox and a first-round pick.

Reddish is a great player, but in order for him to be effective, he has to actually play in games. Since joining the Knicks, Cam Reddish has only played in five total games for a combined 49 minutes.

With R.J. Barrett dealing with an ankle sprain, maybe his minutes will increase, but the Knicks have some massive holes to fill on offense, they have no superstar talent on their roster with Julius Randle taking a step back this season, and once again, the narrative around this team when they miss the playoffs this season will be that they are gearing up to make “big moves” in the offseason.

This has been the narrative in New York for years now and the Knicks really do not have that good of a record in the offseason. Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier really have not made that big of an impact as this team’s key free agent signings this past offseason and who is really going to be available for this team to target next offseason?

Bradley Beal is going to be staying with the Wizards, at least for now, and is going to be receiving a massive contract extension relatively soon, Damian Lillard is going to be staying with Trail Blazers for now, Jerami Grant could possibly get moved in the offseason and CJ McCollum is in New Orleans now.

Maybe the Knicks could make a run at someone like Zach LaVine in free agency, but there is no reason for LaVine to leave Chicago right now, especially since they are likely to offer him a massive max deal to stay with the Bulls.

Looking ahead, the only possible big move that this franchise could make is making a real run at Zion Williamson after next season given that they have his college teammates in R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish. It is a long-shot though to believe this is actually in-play for the Knicks right now, especially since the PElicans just acquired CJ McCollum to pair with Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.

The New York Knicks have doomed themselves this season by not making a big move at the trade deadline and their front-office will have to head back to the drawing boards to try and get something big done in the offseason.

They may have cap space, but if there are no valuable players for the Knicks to bring in during free agency, having cap space is good for nothing.
