Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
On the flip side, this trade would give the New York Knicks the star point guard they’ve wanted for so long. Obviously, Jalen Brunson hasn’t reached star status just yet, but he’s shown flashes that lead one to believe he could get there.
Brunson is already averaging nearly six assists a night and he’s playing behind a ball-dominant point guard in Luka Doncic. If he were given the keys to the Knicks offense, who knows how good of a playmaker he could become?
This team is desperately missing a point guard. Kemba Walker was supposed to be that guy for them this year, but that clearly hasn’t worked out to their liking. Brunson is a younger, better option for them to run out alongside RJ Barrett and Julius Randle.
Plus, at only 25 years old, the Knicks could re-sign Brunson long-term so he can grow and build with Barrett. With how poorly New York has been playing this year, thinking about the future rather than right now could be beneficial.
