New York Knicks Receive: G Jalen Brunson
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Immanuel Quickley, 2023 first-round pick (previously traded to New York; top-10 protected)
In an NBA trade scenario proposed by ESPN’s Kevin Pelton, the Dallas Mavericks would part with Jalen Brunson ahead of his pending free agency amid a career-year.
This trade would net the Knicks the point guard they’ve wanted to so long, while the Mavericks would get Immanuel Quickley their 2023 first-round pick they sent away in part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade years ago.
Once again, it’s been a career-year for Brunson—proving to be a strong complementary backcourt partner to Luka Doncic since moving into the starting lineup full-time midseason.
Brunson is averaging 16.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.5 assists while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three-point range.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Here’s What Jalen Brunson Is Seeking On Next Contract
It’s been a strong 2021-22 campaign from Brunson and he’s done himself major favors ahead of his unrestricted free agency. The Mavericks want to keep him and are confident in being able to do so, but if they had a chance of heart, this would be arguably the most appealing option.
Both teams would shake up their roster in this trade. Why should the Knicks be interested in this sort of deal? Why would the Mavericks? What are the benefits of this trade for both sides? Would this deal ever actually happen?
