How This Trade Impacts Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have begun figuring things out in recent weeks. They have been among the best teams in the NBA in 2022 and they want to keep that momentum going through the end of the season.
A big trade is very unlikely, but the team could upgrade some specific areas to make them more dangerous for the stretch run and hopefully on a playoff run. Harrison Barnes will help them accomplish that and his 3-point shooting is a big reason why.
Barnes has knocked down 43.6 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3-pointers this season and is making 40.7 percent overall. That would help immensely, as Boston is making only 35.2 percent of their catch-and-shoot attempts, which is 22nd in the NBA.
Barnes has the shooting skill to make opponents pay that double off of him to give more attention to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. He can also punish mismatches in the post, something they do not have currently.

Alex Len provides some insurance in the frontcourt with Al Horford moving onto Sacramento. Another positive from this deal for the Celtics is that they cut $2.9 off their payroll, which gets them under the luxury tax. Getting under that tax line has been a goal of the front office.
