Justin Holiday – Indiana Pacers

There is always a need for reliable three-point shooters on the wing who can also defend at a relatively high level, which is why Pacers’ wing Justin Holiday is drawing trade interest right now.

The Pacers recently made a deal to send Caris LeVert to the Cavaliers in exchange for Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract, plus a handful of draft compensation.

This move made over the weekend proves even more that the Pacers are going through some kind of a rebuild and are willing to move assets for future value. With them not in a “win-now” position, Indiana is going to be willing to deal virtually anyone, especially role players that do not hold much long-term leverage.

Justin Holiday is in his 9th NBA season and while he certainly has played well for the Pacers since joining them ahead of the 2019-20 season, his value is at its peak right now.

In 49 games for the Pacers this season, Holiday has averaged 11.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and has shot 37.8% from three-point range, while also displaying defensively that he can hold his own on the perimeter. Set to make $6.2 million in the final year of his contract next season, Justin Holiday has quickly become a key trade target for several playoff contending teams.

Sources have told NBA Analysis Network that the Utah Jazz has shown a level of interest in trading for Holiday this season and the Boston Celtics are another team who could easily acquire the veteran wing given all of their trade exceptions.

However, Justin Holiday is unvaccinated, which could force teams to look elsewhere ahead of the trade deadline. New York and California are the only two states with cities that are requiring athletes to be vaccinated in order to play, so teams like the Knicks, Warriors, Lakers, and Clippers may not show interest in Justin Holiday because of this.

Vaccine status is certainly an outside factor that is going to play a role to some extent in trade talks revolving around Justin Holiday at this year’s trade deadline, but nonetheless, Holiday is still drawing a significant amount of interest.
