Would this trade make sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers?

For the Cleveland Cavaliers, this trade would help cement them as one of the best young teams in the league. With Ben Simmons added to a core of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, there’s no reason the Cavs couldn’t compete for championships very soon.

Simmons is a future Defensive Player of the Year and a perennial All-Star. With the amount of talent the Cavs already have on the roster, adding someone like that would help take them to the next level. Cleveland is already one of the best defensive teams in the league, and this could make them the best.

Giving up on Collin Sexton is something the Cavaliers were considering doing anyway. There were talks this past offseason as to whether or not they wanted to extend him, and they still have not done that. Trading him probably wouldn’t be the end of the world for them.

As for Ricky Rubio, there are rumors going around that the Cavs are looking to trade him before the deadline. His contract is up at the end of the year, and since he’s out for the rest of the season, trading him won’t hurt them too much.

The real caveat in this trade is whether or not Simmons would be willing to play in Cleveland. He’s said he wants to be in California, so if he would just be miserable, there’s no point in making this trade. However, assuming he’d actually play, this would be worth it.
