Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?
There has been questions raised about whether it’s time for the New York Knicks to consider moving on from Julius Randle as the NBA trade deadline approaches. If the decision were to be made to do so, there would need to be a legitimate plan in regards to the type of return.
Taking back a combination of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rui Hachiumura, and Aaron Holiday along with a future first-round pick would be the Knicks opting to salary dump Randle.
Holiday is on an expiring deal and Caldwell-Pope only has $4.9 million guaranteed of his $14 million salary for the 2022-23 season if he’s waived on or before June 28th.
There would need to be a lot of confidence from the Knicks front office in what Rui Hachimura can become as a player if given expanded opportunity. He’s averaging a career-worst 7.8 pints, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 16.6 minutes per game after having consecutive seasons over the 13 points per game threshold.
