How This Deal Impacts New York Knicks

Boy, how things have changed. It took a New York minute for Julius Randle to be the savior for the New York Knicks, being compared to Carmelo Anthony, to fans wanting him to be traded out of town.

There were some rumors last offseason, before his breakout campaign, that he could be traded to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Buddy Hield. Luckily for New York, his value has improved since then and they can use Randle to address their most glaring need; the point guard position.

The Knicks land De’Aaron Fox in this deal and he has a chance to endear himself to fans rapidly. It has been a long time since the Knicks had a floor general of Fox’s caliber and fans will love seeing the quick twitch, athletic guard leading the way.

Not only do the Knicks address their point guard problem, but they also clear minutes for Cam Reddish to enter the rotation. Reddish has been stuck on the bench since being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks, but moving Evan Fournier opens up nearly 29 minutes per game. Fans will be ecstatic that minutes are cleared for Obi Toppin as well with Randle moving on.

Marvin Bagley III is a solid reclamation project for the Knicks, as they get a look at the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft before he hits restricted free agency. He has been serviceable in his career but hasn’t lived up to his lofty draft position.

Tristan Thompson adds some more insurance in the frontcourt. They have battled injuries at the center position all season long, so adding another big-bodied veteran with experience that can soak up minutes is a good idea.

Fox and RJ Barrett would give the Knicks a strong foundation to build on in the backcourt for years to come. Fans will salivate at a potential lineup that includes those two, Reddish, Toppin and Mitchell Robinson for years to come with Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes and Deuce McBride coming off the bench. New York would have one of the highest upside young cores in the NBA if this trade were to go down.
