Portland Trail Blazers Receive: F/C Dario Saric, F/C Jalen Smith, PHX 2024 1st Round Pick (Unprotected)
Phoenix Suns Receive: F/C Robert Covington
Robert Covington is now in his second season with the Portland Trail Blazers, 9th overall NBA season, but he is in the final year of his contract and on a very moveable contract. Making just $12.9M this season, Covington could see several playoff contenders targeting him leading up to this year’s trade deadline.
In 47 games this season, Robert Covington is averaging 7.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.3 blocks and is shooting 35.3% from three-point range. Being a highly skilled two-way forward in this league, Covington had been playing very well as of late for the Trail Blazers and has shot about 39.5% from three-point range since the new year.
Not too long ago, Covington earned All-Defensive Team honors and he has averaged at least one steal and one block per game in four of the last five seasons.
With the ability to play small-forward, power-forward and even some center in smaller lineups, Robert Covington is the perfect kind of frontcourt talent for the Phoenix Suns to pursue.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: These 3 Teams Should Pursue Trade For Blazers’ Robert Covington
He would be a perfect complimentary player next to Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton in this frontcourt and being a “3-and-D” type of player, the Suns would be gaining yet another weapon that they can utilize in many different ways.
Portland is having a really bad season to this point and sooner or later, they are going to possibly begin “clearing house” on guys like Covington, Nurkic and others in the final year of their contracts.
It is unlikely that Damian Lillard will be traded, but everyone else on this roster could be moved for the right price.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: These 3 Teams Should Pursue Trade For Blazers’ Robert Covington
Pursuing Ben Simmons, Jerami Grant, Myles Turner or another high-level talent definitely still remains a possibility, but it is much more likely that this team will make some minor trades to add more future value.
Dario Saric does not make the Portland Trail Blazers front-office excited, but Jalen Smith can bring some value, as can a future first-round pick. At least they would be getting something for Robert Covington, a player that is going to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
