Jerami Grant – Detroit Pistons

In regards to searching for another “star” to pair with Luka Doncic, Jerami Grant could realistically be the best option for the Dallas Mavericks this season.

Grant is in the second-year of his three-year, $60M contract and is under contract for one more season before he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Pistons do not necessarily want to trade Jerami Grant at the trade deadline, but they are interested in capitalizing on his value while it is at its peak, especially since there is a chance they could lose him in 2023 anyways!

Jerami Grant feels the same way in regards to wanting to stay in Detroit if possible, but he too is open to change if his role can remain the same as it currently is with the Pistons. Since joining the Pistons in free agency a season ago, Grant has cemented himself as one of the best two-way forwards in the NBA and has really made a name for himself as a high-level scorer.

While he has not played since Dec. 10 due to a UCL ligament injury in his right thumb that needed surgery, Jerami Grant is still being discussed as the most pursued player on the trade block this season.

Being able to continue being a “go-to” scorer and earning a massive contract extension are the two goals of Jerami Grant should he be traded this season and Dallas may be willing to give into both requests.

He would no longer be the No. 1 option on his team, as Luka Doncic is the Mavericks best talent, but Jerami Grant would be heavily relied upon in Dallas as a key No. 2 scoring option. In terms of getting a large contract extension from them, this may be a little tougher to agree to, but the Mavericks could potentially make things work.

Cap space is going to be tough for the Mavericks over the next few years, but they would be alright with the idea of letting Dorian Finney-Smith go in free agency due to the fact that they would now have Grant.

Not to mention, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype mentioned recently that the Detroit Pistons are a team watching Jalen Brunson closely. They could be prepared to make a move for him in the offseason, giving the Mavericks trade bait right away to lure Jerami Grant away from Detroit.
