San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Tomas Satoransky, C Jaxson Hayes, LAL 2024 1st Round Pick (Option to Delay Pick Until 2025, via NOP)
New Orleans Pelicans Receive: G Derrick White

Derrick White’s best attribute is the fact that he can play with or without the ball in his hands in the backcourt.

While he is not the best three-point shooter, White’s ability to create space for others and rack up assists is what makes him valuable, especially to a team like the New Orleans Pelicans who have a viable shooter in their backcourt already.

The Pelicans signed Devonte’ Graham this season and he has been the leader of their backcourt, but he is not really known to be much of a facilitator.

Currently second on the team in assists, Graham has played his role perfectly, but the Pelicans need someone that Graham can play off of.

On a reasonable contract and averaging a career-high 5.6 assists per game this season, Derrick White could become the Pelicans starting point guard, opening up space on the floor for New Orleans’ best scorers in Devonte’ Graham, Brandon Ingram and center Jonas Valanciunas.

Tomas Satoransky is nothing more than a salary-filler for the Spurs this season since he is in the final year of his contract, but Jaxson Hayes is a very intriguing name to keep tabs on.

Sources have told NBA Analysis Network that the New OrleansPelicans are open to moving Jaxson Hayes in a trade this season and the Spurs could actually use some more depth in their frontcourt.

Jakob Poeltl is this team’s only reliable big man, which is why Hayes, a former lottery pick, could carve out a long-term role in San Antonio.

Along with adding a potential building block for the future in Jaxson Hayes, the Spurs would also be adding a future first-round pick via Los Angeles in either 2024 or 2025, whichever year they decide.

The Spurs are rebuilding right now and already having a young core in place, the best thing they can do for themselves is continue to find ways to add young, dynamic talents moving forward. This trade could wind up doing just that for them.
