Would this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
On the flip side, this trade is all about the future for the Dallas Mavericks. With Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis as the two current pillars of the franchise, putting shooting around them should be a top priority. Duncan Robinson provides that.
He’s shooting 35.9 percent from deep this year, which would rank fifth amongst Dallas’ regular rotation players. Plus, they would be banking on Robinson returning to the form he was at in his two prior years with the Miami Heat that earned him a massive extension.
Robinson has shown flashes of that this year, too. He’s shooting 40.8 percent from deep on 8.4 attempts per game in the month of January. That sort of catch-and-shoot prowess would be an ideal fit next to Doncic, who desperately needs more shooting around him.
Tim Hardaway Jr. hasn’t panned out the Mavs might have hoped, and he’s more of a sparkplug scorer anyway. Robinson is a pure sharpshooter who would stand behind the three-point line, create space for Doncic, and give him an option to kick out too.

The fit of Robinson with the Dallas Mavericks makes a ton of sense, and they’d even be able to take a chance on a young, versatile defender in KZ Okpala. They could look to trade Dorian Finney-Smith regardless since his contract is up at the end of the year. This trade would be great for the Mavs.
