Would this trade make sense for the Miami Heat?
The Miami Heat may not be regretting the Duncan Robinson contract extension, but there simply might be no need for it anymore. Max Strus has outplayed Robinson this year. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. So by trading Robinson, they would just be opening up some cap space for the future.
Dorian Finney-Smith plays big minutes for the Dallas Mavericks, and he plays his role well. He’s a versatile forward that plays solid defense and can shoot the three-ball. Considering the Heat already have PJ Tucker, Finney-Smith would be the perfect backup for them.
As for Maxi Kleber, he would give them a different look at the big man position. They don’t really have any floor-spacing bigs on the roster, and Kleber is just that. He could play a similar role to the one Kelly Olynyk played for them not too long ago.
And on top of all of that, they would still have an open roster spot. By trading KZ Okpala, too, Miami would maintain an open roster spot to sign one of their two-way players. Caleb Martin is the obvious choice, as he’s been a crucial part of their rotation this year.

Finney-Smith’s contract is up at the end of the year, and Kleber only has one season left on his deal after this one. This would allow them to free up a ton of money on the books while still getting back quality pieces to help them compete for a championship this season.
