How This Deal Impacts Utah Jazz
While Donovan Mitchell might want to land with the Miami Heat down the line, the Utah Jazz likely isn’t going to be able to line up with them for a trade. It would need to be in a situation where he demanded to be traded and the Heat listed as one of his few preferred destinations.
The Heat just do not have the assets to make a compelling package for the Jazz without including Jimmy Butler. Bam Adebayo isn’t a fit for Utah as they already have Rudy Gobert at the center spot.
This proposed package lacks the impact player that the Jazz would be looking for unless they are extremely high on Tyler Herro. Even if they like him, the player package falls short. Kyle Lowry isn’t a great pairing along with Mike Conley Jr. in the backcourt. Max Strus could carve out a role on the wing, but is a role player.
Usually, when a team cannot build a great package player-wise, they will make up for it with draft compensation. The Heat is unable to do that, as they have virtually zero draft capital.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Heat, Knicks Eventual Landing Spot For Donovan Mitchell?
They are being docked their next closest second-round pick because of the tampering charges levied against them from acquiring Lowry in a sign-and-trade from the Toronto Raptors. There are no first-round picks available to move until 2025 because they owe their first-rounder in 2022 and 2023 elsewhere already.
This is a deal that the Jazz would have virtually no interest in completing as they aren’t getting anywhere near the value that Mitchell is worth.
