Would this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?

The New York Knicks would be getting a new starting center in this deal. Considering they have Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel, and Taj Gibson right now, some may be confused at this deal. But Myles Turner would give them an immediate upgrade over all of those guys.

Turner’s ability to both protect the paint at an elite level and shoot the three-ball fits in perfectly with the way the Knicks play basketball. His fit next to Julius Randle just makes sense, and he would definitely raise their ceiling as a team.

Giving up Robinson may confuse some, but he also needs to be extended at the end of this season. Trading him would let them avoid paying him. Losing Quentin Grimes hurts, too, but in order to get an upgrade like Turner, it would have to happen.

The starting lineup in New York could look something like this after this trade: Alec Burks, Evan Fournier, RJ Barrett, Randle, and Turner. That’s a quality bench rotation, plus the Knicks would still have both Noel and Gibson as backup centers.

This trade certainly helps the Knicks improve because of his defense and floor-spacing. Turner would (hopefully) get a bigger role in New York, too, as they look for extra production around their struggling stars. The Knicks should definitely look at a deal like this.
