Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Russell Westbrook, G Wayne Ellington, 2025 Second-Round Pick
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Tim Hardaway Jr., F Maxi Kleber, G/F Reggie Bullock
This trade would allow the Los Angeles Lakers to get off of Russell Westbrook’s contract and also add some depth to the roster. Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks would get rid of a couple of rough contracts of their own while also getting a third “star” to put next to their big three.
With all of the struggles Westbrook has gone through this year, he’s still putting up okay stats.
The veteran point guard is averaging 18.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 29.1 percent from deep.
Tim Hardaway Jr. has not lived up to his contract extension in the slightest. The Michigan alum is putting up 14.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from deep.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Russell Westbrook’s Play Beyond Point Of Concern For Lakers
All three of the role players involved in this deal provide some value, too. Reggie Bullock hasn’t played as well as the Mavs had hoped, either, but he’s still an okay 3&D player. Maxi Kleber is an efficient outside scorer and a decent defender. Wayne Ellington has shot well from behind the arc this year.
Overall, this trade definitely seems a bit clunky. But when it’s all fleshed out, it kind of makes sense for both sides. Why should either team be interested in this deal? What benefits does this trade provide for both the Lakers and the Mavericks?
