Would this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?
For the Washington Wizards, they’d be getting a young All-Star that they could build around moving forward. Despite the clear risks involved in trading for Simmons, he still has all the talent in the world to become an elite franchise centerpiece.
Beal has outwardly said that he will likely be weighing his options this offseason. By trading for Simmons, they’d (theoretically) ensure that they wouldn’t lose Beal for nothing. It would give them a new face of the franchise.
Washington would then have the chance to build around Simmons moving forward. The team around him right now would be solid, but the Wizards could take the next few years to surround him with all the shooters in the world so he can have the freedom to control the paint.
Right now, though, if this trade got done, here’s what Washington’s starting lineup could look like – Simmons, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Deni Avdija, Kyle Kuzma, and Daniel Gafford. They’d then have Spencer Dinwiddie and Montrezl Harrell coming off the bench.

Simmons clearly isn’t happy in Philadelphia anymore, so getting traded anywhere would likely help him reset his career a bit. Washington would give him a chance to play with a solid team right now, and the Wizards could then focus on putting a well-suited team around him for the future.
