Would this trade make sene for the New Orleans Pelicans?
Some people may question why the New Orleans Pelicans would do this trade, and rightfully so. Brandon Ingram is a bonafide All-Star, and none of the players they’d get in return have shown the ability to be that just yet in their careers.
However, it is clear that something isn’t working in New Orleans. They are still young, but with the talent they have, there’s no question that they should be better than they are, even without Zion Williamson. This trade would give them some nice raw prospects, as well as quality depth.
Derrick White is a great piece to have on any team, and Doug McDermott provides the sort of floor-spacing the Pelicans should want around Williamson. Add in the youth of Lonnie Walker IV, the untapped potential of Joshua Primo, and a couple of first-round picks, and this is a decent deal.
The Pelicans’ starting lineup could look something like this (once Williamson returns from injury) – Devonte’ Graham, White, Josh Hart, Williamson, and Jonas Valanciunas. They would then be able to bring McDermott, Walker IV, and Primo off the bench (and let the latter two develop).

Again, this may seem a bit weird for the Pelicans to complete this trade. However, if they don’t feel the duo of Ingram and Williamson can win them a title, why not prepare for the future while also adding quality depth in the now? If they decide to trade Ingram at any point, this is a solid package.
