Would this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?

The Boston Celtics would be banking on a big three of De’Aaron Fox, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown if they did this deal. Boston would be sacrificing some of its most valuable young assets, while also getting rid of the heart and soul of the team in Marcus Smart.

Adding Fox would be giving the Jays an All-Star-caliber point guard to work with (again). He would be able to run the offense while Tatum and Brown worked on the perimeter. The chemistry would have to be built, but that core sounds elite.

One of the biggest issues most people have with the Celtics is that they don’t move the ball enough. Fox would definitely help fix those issues, and he’d have more weapons to work with than ever before in Boston, which could help him develop as a player as well.

However, losing Smart would definitely be tough for the C’s. He’s been a staple of that franchise for the better part of the last decade, and his defense and hustle have been crucial for them. That being said, it’d be a necessary loss to trade for someone like Fox.

This trade would gut the youth of the Celtics and attempt to depend on a star-studded big three. While this formula hasn’t worked out well in the past few years for the C’s, with a young core like the one they’d have here, it might be worth testing it out again.
