Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
Swinging Danilo Gallinari and Cam Reddish for Jerami Grant would be a huge move for the Atlanta Hawks to make. Grant is a proven scorer on his own and is still a highly respected “3-and-D” type of player on the wing.
Maybe he would rather continue playing on his own rather with another star like Trae Young, but Jerami Grant is certainly what the Hawks have in mind in terms of adding a more defensive-focused player at either forward position.
The problem with bringing in Grant though from the Hawks’ perspective is that their cap situations would not go away. They would be operating below the tax line on the season, which is advantageous to this team, but this trade would likely be a “loan” of Jerami Grant since they would not likely extend him long-term.
Grant is eligible for a contract extension this offseason that could pay him upwards of $112M over four years, a contract that the Hawks may show hesitation in offering since they just extended four of their top players this past offseason.

If management is willing to pay Grant long-term, then this trade definitely makes sense for the Atlanta Hawks, but if they are not wanting to keep Jerami Grant on a new, high paying contract, then keeping Cam Reddish and extending him long-term could be the next best solution for this team.
Either way, it is hard to imagine that Atlanta will be able to rekindle the success they found in the playoffs a season ago.
