This trade would send CJ McCollum to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a couple of win-now pieces and a couple of potential future building blocks. A trade like this one would prepare the Portland Trail Blazers for two scenarios – winning now and rebuilding.

McCollum is putting together a pretty productive season for the Blazers so far this season. He’s averaging 20.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists a night while shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from deep.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers would be getting two veterans to help in the short term and two young pieces to help in the long term.

Steven Adams is averaging 7.0 points and 9.4 rebounds, while Kyle Anderson is averaging 8.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point land.

Both Brandon Clarke and Ziaire Williams have a ton of potential moving forward. Clarke has gotten fewer and less opportunities throughout his three years in Memphis and is only putting up 8.8 points this season. Williams would be the premier piece in this deal, as the rookie was just taken 10th overall.

As previously stated, this trade would set the Memphis Grizzlies up to win now while also helping Portland shake things up. They’d get pieces for now and for the future. But why would both teams be interested in this deal?
