Why The Miami Heat Should Target Cory Joseph
Upgrading the roster with the limited assets the Miami Heat has is difficult. But, it would be smart to at least call the Detroit Pistons about Cory Joseph and gauge the price.
He could very well be out of their price range, especially if a bidding war ensues. But, he is a perfect addition to their backcourt depth. He can play either guard spot, providing some versatility.
When he is playing on the ball, he is capable of running the offense and providing a bit of an offensive spark. Defensively he gets after it, fitting the Heat culture that has been cultivated. Most importantly, he is a veteran that can start in a pinch.
Kyle Lowry has struggled with injuries in recent seasons. Miami is navigating not having Bam Adebayo in the lineup because they had a veteran in Dwayne Dedmon and Omer Yurtseven has been excellent. But, they do not have a veteran such as Dedmon for the backcourt and Joseph would provide that.

Miami could have Victory Oladipo play that role upon his return, but they will bring him along slowly. Having someone they know can step into the role if need be would make life easier for head coach Erik Spoelstra.
If Miami is going to make one move ahead of the deadline, bolstering the backcourt is the move to make. Oladipo’s eventual return can help bolster the wing and the team has shown their depth in the frontcourt despite numerous injuries is strong.
