Detroit Pistons Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic, F Eric Paschall, F Elijah Hughes, MEM 2022 2nd Round Pick, UTA 2026 1st Round Pick (Conveys 2 years after UTA sends first-round pick to OKC)
Utah Jazz Receive: F Jerami Grant, G Rodney McGruder

If the Utah Jazz were to have a chance to acquire Jerami Grant, this trade would almost definitely involve a third or fourth team not only for the Detroit Pistons to get more future value and young assets, but because Utah is kind of stuck right now in terms of what draft picks they can trade away.

Utah has an obligation to Grizzlies in which they traded their 2022 first-round pick to the Thunder, but this pick is Top-6 protected. It seems like this pick is going to be going to Memphis, which would trigger yet another obligation the Jazz have in which they traded their 2024 first-round pick to Oklahoma City, but it is protected Top-10.

Should the Jazz finish with one of the ten worst records during the 2023-24 season, which is unlikely but you never know, then the Thunder would get their 2025 first-round pick Top-10 protected, followed by their 2026 first-round pick Top-8 protected, else a 2028 second-round pick.

Technically speaking, the Jazz could trade their 2026 first-round pick to Detroit with a star next to it stating that it would transfer two years after their obligation to Oklahoma City is fulfilled, but 2026 is the earliest Utah could trade a first-round pick.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: One Major Caveat For Any Team In Jerami Grant Trade

Their 2023 first-round pick cannot be traded due to the Stepien Rule, which does not allow teams to trade first-round picks in consecutive years, and this rule also applies to their 2025 first-round pick stemming from the Thunder trade.

This makes things very complicated for Utah in their potential pursuit of Jerami Grant because if Detroit is to trade him, they are going to want a ton of future value in return.

Eric Paschal and Elijah Hughes are not bad, young talents for the Pistons to add to their young core and Bojan Bogdanovic could be a good fit in-place of Grant, but Detroit would get almost zero draft compensation from this trade.

LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: One Major Caveat For Any Team In Jerami Grant Trade

It is possible that another team could give the Pistons one or two first-round picks in a multi-team deal that would send Jerami Grant to the Jazz, but what would Utah give up to said third team in return?

Utah does not want to tear apart their roster given how well they are playing and while adding Jerami Grant would surely make them a better team, the logistics of figuring this trade out may be too complicated for Detroit to be interested in.
