Dennis Schroder – Boston Celtics
Everyone has seemed to forget about Dennis Schroder in Boston, but he is extremely getable for any team in this league. The Celtics originally signed Schroder to a one-year deal this past offseason with the mindset of trading him at the deadline, which is why Cleveland could consider him a possible replacement.
In 29 games with Boston so far this season, Dennis Schroder has averaged 16.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and has shot 42.5% from the floor. Being paid just $5.8M this season and set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the year, Dennis Schroder is the picture-perfect trade target for the Cavaliers given their circumstances.
Cleveland does not necessarily need a long-term replacement right now and the best move they could possibly make is to add a low-cost, high-reward type of player.
Dennis Schroder is certainly this kind of player and while he is more of a scoring guard than that of Ricky Rubio, he kind of plays with that same patient style as the veteran guard. He takes his time reading defenses and Schroder is a very willing passer, averaging 5.4 assists since the start of last season.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Overcoming Ricky Rubio Injury Will Not Be Easy For Cavaliers
With no long-term liability tied to him and being on a cheap contract, Dennis Schroder is probably the most-experienced player that makes the most sense for Cleveland, but what would they have to give up to get him?
The Boston Celtics are looking to find ways to win this season and quite honestly, the Cavaliers do not really have any intriguing players other than maybe Cedi Osman, who the team would prefer not to give up.
If they were to acquire Schroder, the Cavaliers would likely have to get another team or two involved in said deal, that way Boston can get the kind of value they want.
