Do The Cleveland Cavaliers Benefit From Making This Trade?
Of course, the Cleveland Cavaliers benefit from making this trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Adding Ben Simmons to their roster would be huge not only because of what he brings to the table defensively but because of his playmaking abilities.
Say what you want about Simmons, but he has been an effective offensive player over the course of his young career. In four seasons, Ben Simmons has averaged 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and has shot 55.7% from the floor.
Sure, he is not much of a shooter outside of the paint and can be a liability to score, but that would not be his role in Cleveland. Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are this team’s main threats on offense, which is why Simmons’ job would be to get them the ball and continue being a force inside the paint.
If they were to add the 76ers’ All-Star, the Cavaliers would have a starting lineup of Ben Simmons (7’0”), Darius Garland (6’1”), Lauri Markkanen (7’0”), Evan Mobley (7’0”) and Jarrett Allen (6’11”).

How do you guard this?
The Cavaliers would be virtually impossible to stop on offense unless the opposing team put all five guys in the paint and forced Cleveland to shoot nothing but three-pointers the entire game!
Teams are having a hard enough time trying to guard both Mobley and Allen in the paint, now imagine four seven-footers crashing the glass on both ends of the floor every single possession!
The idea of adding Ben Simmons is definitely intriguing and makes a whole lot of sense from the Cavaliers’ side of things, but there is just no way that they could pull off this trade.

Cleveland does not have any All-Star-level talents to trade and the Philadelphia 76ers did not want to trade Simmons there in the offseason for a trade package revolving around Collin Sexton. If they did not want Sexton, there is no way that they would take anything else from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
