1. New Orleans Pelicans
There’s a lot to like about the progression Brandon Ingram has experienced in his overall game since being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in part of the Anthony Davis deal. However, aside from him and an injured Zion Williamson, there isn’t a lot of reasons for intrigue.
The Pelicans had the chance to add an intriguing talent when they had the No. 4 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft—having their pick of De’Andre Hunter or Darius Garland. Instead, they traded down to the No. 8 spot and took Jaxson Hayes over Tyler Herro, Cam Reddish, or PJ Washington.
Keep in mind, Kira Lewis Jr., who was taken No. 13 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, hasn’t looked like anything special either. The Pelicans could have taken Cole Anthony instead, which is just another example of how a lack of quality draft choices when given the chance to capitalize has plagued New Orleans.
Finding as many ways to reasonably appeal to Williamson as possible would be a wise choice for the New Orleans Pelicans to maximize their chances of keeping him around long-term. Free agency has proven to be a flop and they can’t seem to make quality draft picks, either. It’s time to explore trade scenarios.
