Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?
The Los Angeles Lakers have zero cap space and zero trade assets, but at least they have a $2.6M trade exception that was created when they traded Marc Gasol to the Grizzlies this past offseason.
Utilizing this TPE to acquire a frontcourt replacement for Anthony Davis is something that must be done right now, especially since Los Angeles’ frontcourt is a mess with Davis in the picture! DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard have not played well and as a result, adding another center like Damian Jones, who spent time with the team last season, could be favorable.
It would not take long to get Jones acclimated to this system and being a younger more athletic big man, he could be someone they look to play 15-20 minutes per game and utilize in pick-and-roll situations.
His recent performances against the Spurs and Warriors have definitely caught the attention of some around the league and while Damian Jones is not going to be a franchise-altering talent in any way, at least he could provide some depth and stability for a team that is scrambling for answers right now.

Jones did not play badly in 8 games with the Lakers last season and since his contract is affordable, he is one of the only players the Lakers can target in a trade right now. Bringing in Damian Jones is not going to make the Lakers worse at this point, so they might as well take a chance on him.
